#HerNameIs Deepa Dinamani, she moved to Ireland a few months ago with her five-year-old son, and husband.
Deepa was stabbed in the neck on Friday night last, 14th July 2023, left to die without any medical assistance.
Gardai believe Deepa was dead for several hours in the house and the alarm was only raised when she failed to collect her five-year-old son from a friend’s house after they had collected him from a summer camp.
Her husband has since been arrested and charged with her murder.
A five-year-old is without his mother because of #MensViolenceAgainstWomen
A vigil took place on Sunday night just metres from the house where Deepa Dinamani was found dead on Friday night. Members of the Indian community gathered on the green area of Cardinal Court in Wilton at 8pm that evening, holding roses in tribute to the 38-year-old mother of one. The vigil was organised by the Cork Pravasi Malayali Association.
This is another tragic death that could have been prevented, emphasising the urgent need to address the pervasive issue of gender-based violence and the brutal femicides that continue to plague our society.
It is imperative for us to rally together and advocate for change, encouraging men to join us in the fight against these heinous acts. By actively engaging men and educating them about the importance of equality and respect, we can work towards dismantling the toxic societal norms that perpetuate violence against women.
Only through collective efforts and a unified stand against gender-based violence can we hope to create a safer and more inclusive world for all. Please for the love of children and women everywhere, help keep their mothers safe and alive, so they can all live a fulfilled, healthy and happy life free of violence.
Everyone deserves to feel safe.
