Ruhama
Ruhama is a voluntary organisation, based in Dublin and works on a national level, with women affected by prostitution and other forms of commercial sexual exploitation.
Ruhama is Hebrew for ‘renewed life’.
The organisation is predominantly a frontline service and began its work in 1989, as an outreach service to women in street-based prostitution.
Over the years the service has evolved and adapted to meet the needs of women. Some of these changes reflect the changing nature of the Irish sex trade which has become more globalised, predominantly indoors and controlled by organised crime.
Ruhama’s services are extensive in breadth and have a unique model of work which is not replicated by any other agency in Ireland.
In 2014, Ruhama celebrated its 25th anniversary of providing services to women affected by prostitution. Our records show, we assisted over 2,500 women from over 60 countries during those 25 years.
Tusla Domestic, Sexual, Gender Based Violence Programme
Domestic and/or sexual violence is the threat or use of physical, emotional, psychological and sexual abuse in close adult relationships. This includes destruction of property, isolation from family and friends or other potential sources of support and threats to others including children. Stalking and control over access to money, personal items, food, transport and the telephone are also common examples of domestic abuse.
Such abuse affects people across our society – from all walks of life, from all cultural, social and ethnic backgrounds and across all age groups. The majority of victims are women, but a significant number of men are affected and abuse also occurs in same-sex relationships.
Domestic and/or sexual violence has severe and persistent effects on physical and mental health, and carries with it an enormous cost in terms of premature death and disability.
If you are experiencing domestic violence there is help available.

It is often carried out by someone known to the victim. This could be a partner, former partner, relative, friend or colleague. You may have no physical injuries or obvious signs after the incident.
All SATU care is free and available by appointment to those in need 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The service provides prompt provision of medical and supportive care and collection of forensic evidence.

The HSE National Clinical Programme for Eating Disorders (NCP-ED) is a collaborative initiative between the HSE, the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland, and BodyWhys – the national support group for people with eating disorders. Eating disorders have the highest mortality and morbidity of all of the mental health conditions (Arcelus, 2011), and it is estimated that they will affect between 1 to 4% of the population at some point in their lives (NIMH, 2016). They are caused by a combination of genetic, biological and psychosocial factors and occur across gender, age, cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic groupings. Although not common eating disorders result in very high psychosocial and economic cost to individuals, families, healthcare and society when not treated or treated ineffectively (Butterfly Foundation 2012 and 2015).
